Who we are

At the Health and Wellbeing Trust (HWT), we are passionate about empowering healthcare professionals with integrative healthcare knowledge and training, as well as individuals and communities through integrative healthcare education and services. As a registered charity, our mission is to make integrative, evidence-based healthcare more accessible, equitable, and impactful for everyone.

Our Mission

We believe that true wellbeing comes from a balance of mind, body, and spirit. That’s why we are committed to delivering accessible, self-paced online education and that bridges the gap between conventional and holistic healthcare approaches.

Our Strategic Partnership with the National Centre for Integrative Medicine

We are proud to work in strategic partnership with the National Centre for Integrative Medicine (NCIM), our parent body. This collaboration strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality, accredited courses that equip healthcare professionals with integrative approaches to better support their patients. NCIM serves as the accreditation centre for many of our courses, ensuring the highest standards of learning and professional development. Together, we are creating a ripple effect of positive change in the healthcare landscape.

What is Integrative Medicine?

Integrative Medicine combines conventional, lifestyle, functional, and holistic approaches in a collaborative way to support overall health and wellbeing. It emphasises a respectful partnership between different medical and therapeutic disciplines.

This evidence-based approach focuses on treating the whole person rather than just addressing specific symptoms. It promotes wellness, resilience, and vitality while helping to restore balance, optimise health, and lower the risk of disease. A key aspect of Integrative Medicine is empowering individuals to take an active role in their wellbeing through self-care.

By offering a wider range of options, Integrative Medicine enhances choice for both patients and healthcare professionals. Patients feel more informed and in control of their health, while practitioners gain a deeper sense of purpose and are better equipped to provide comprehensive care.

As a whole-person model that considers mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, Integrative Medicine has the potential to become a key part of mainstream healthcare in the future—but it’s also something we can all embrace today.

The different approaches to healthcare explained

Conventional Medicine

This approach focuses on diagnosing and treating illnesses through medical interventions such as prescription medications, surgery, radiation, or physiotherapy. Typically, the first step is consulting a GP, who may then refer patients to specialists or other healthcare professionals trained in medical science. This is also referred to as allopathic medicine.

Lifestyle Medicine

A science-backed approach that empowers individuals to make lasting lifestyle changes for better health and wellbeing. This includes evidence-based strategies in nutrition, sleep optimisation, movement and exercise, breathwork, and mindfulness. The focus is on proactive self-care and long-term wellness.

Holistic Medicine

An approach that recognises the deep connection between physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health. It incorporates whole-person therapies to both prevent and manage illness. Examples include Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, Ayurveda, Medical Homeopathy, Craniosacral Therapy, and various forms of bodywork.

A Complementary Approach

Lifestyle and holistic medicine do not replace conventional medical care but work alongside it, offering an integrative healthcare approach to enhance overall health outcomes.
